Nice To Have: Ability to include Service Projects
-
We are currently adding them as Jobs.
Discussed with Kilen as a possible feature to add to Capacity Planning. -
I agree, service and capacity planning would be helpful. We use the Sales App for service projects. We make it work but a more thoughtful process would be handy. we create components as service related tasks but its cumbersome and time consuming to treat service items as components. ex. Items that we use assemblies to group have to get processed as physical assemblies in both procurement and the assembly app...

Josh, Appreciate the feedback.
I will check if our sales app is applicable and get back to you as far as next steps. We would prefer to work in one app, if at all possible, but I understand bigger fisher are more of a priority. -
Improving the Sales Order application to include service is something we've internally discussed, the specific challenge is the scope of work, what customers are looking for, etc.
Additionally a mixed-job environment where parts/assemblies are physically manufactured, assembled, packaged and shipped with the addition of service labor to take place after the manufacturing/purchasing/assembly of the items (likely with different billing sequencing).
It's a lot to think through, and understand if we need to split up billing cycles based on the line item (instead of the entire order), how to treat service (labor only) lines different as opposed to manufacturing, then how much detail/functionality to include on the service side (travel schedules, hotels, rental cars, etc.) -

How can we help? I can see how this task could be challenging. It continues to be a challenge to try and navigate it without the workflow being available in the software we are using. We are trying to make it work but its clunky and often users find excuses to NOT use the software. As an equipment manufacturer that offers post sales service we are more often that not quoting parts AND services in the same order through Calibrations, Preventative Maintenance, etc. We have to be able to quote and deliver Parts and Services in the same offering otherwise its messy and we look foolish. The capacity planning and scheduling would be nice but currently low on my priority since that can be handled using other means without affecting the work flow through CP. We would be open to a focus group to try and dial in what this might look like.

Josh,
You’ve raised some valid points. I realize this is in response to an earlier post, but the challenges you outlined are still very relevant. One possible starting point could be the Budget Record UI for initial jobs. While fairly basic, it would likely capture around 80% of what we need to quote for Services and any additional Parts, if required.
From there, you could build in categories to cover the different service tasks and related details. As long as this information flows through to a detailed, line-item invoice, UBE would be very satisfied in utilizing such a feature.

Look forward to a focus group, if warranted.
Thanks again.
